v Copy editingCopy editing can be summed up as a more radical form of proofreading. The intention of copy editing is to make a document more accessible to the intended consumer. It may involve re-writing infelicitous phrases and sentences, re-arranging paragraph order, writing links, incorporating headings and side-bars and generally turning what may have started out as a sparsely-connected series of hard facts into a readable, visually pleasing and professional document. Our copy editing does this sensitively and with due respect for the facts and the thrust of the argument. Naturally, all the functions of proofreading are incorporated in copy editing, and all British Standards on proofreading are adhered to. An expert in his or her field need not necessarily be skilled at writing fluid copy; the copy editor’s skill complements the skill of the professional in the production of successful documents.
