v Document controlDocument control is closely related to cataloguing and is usually carried out by the same operative. The objects of document control are to ensure that documentation is up-to-date; that confidential documents remain secure; to ensure that documents reach the right people, can be tracked and are acted upon; and that statutory documents are completed and returned timeously. It can be seen that document control is an important element in both smooth administration and company security. In this electronic age the word ‘document’ does not necessarily refer only to hard copy. All the points above apply equally to electronic documents. We would set up the document control procedures in consultation with management and with your own IT security consultant in accordance with BS7799: Information security management. We can then continue to take an active, supervisory role in your document control, or we can hand it over to your own staff. |
